Company (English South Sea Company) - an Engli sh limited company, having a royal monopoly on trade with South A merica. Company became famous mainly because of the creation bub ble (the South Sea Bubble) on the trading of its shares. Price o f the shares peaked at in 1720, after which there was a slump in the exchange rate, leading to a wave of collapses of unprecedented scale. The company was founded by the Lord Treasurer - Robert Harley in 1711
